Privacy Policy

NotchPaste is built so that we know as little about you as possible. Your clipboard history never leaves your Mac. The only personal data we handle is what we need to sell you a license and to answer your emails.

This Privacy Policy explains what that data is, why we use it, who helps us process it and what rights you have. Please read it before buying a license or contacting us.

1.Who we are

The NotchPaste app (the “App”), the website https://notchpaste.com (the “Website”) and the licensing service at api.notchpaste.com are operated by NotchPaste (“we”, “us” and “our”). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is processed. You can reach us at hello@notchpaste.com.

2.Data that stays on your Mac

The App stores your clipboard history, pinboards, AI prompts, previews and settings locally in ~/Library/Application Support/NotchPaste, and its trial and license information in the macOS Keychain. This data is not uploaded, synchronized or shared. It is not transferred to our servers, and we have no way to access it.

To keep sensitive material out of your history, the App skips copies that password managers mark as concealed or transient, ignores common password managers entirely, and skips text that looks like an API key, access token or private key. You can exclude other apps, pause recording, choose how long history is kept and clear it at any time in Settings.

When you copy a web link, the App can show a preview of the page: its title, image and icon. To get them it requests the page directly from that website, which sees an ordinary request from your Mac (including your IP address), as if you had opened the link. Nothing goes through our servers, private and local addresses are never requested, and you can turn this off in Settings › Clipboard › Link previews.

To paste for you, the App asks for macOS Accessibility permission. It uses that permission only to send the paste command to the app you are working in, never to record your keystrokes or read the contents of other apps.

3.Personal data we process

Licensing. When you buy, activate, renew or deactivate Pro, the App and our licensing service process your license key, your plan and its status, the email address used for the purchase, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, the end of your current billing period, and for each activated Mac a device identifier, the Mac’s name and the dates it was activated and last checked in. The device identifier is a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware UUID; it cannot be turned back into the UUID. We use this data to deliver and verify your license, to enforce the 3-Mac limit and to let you restore or move your license. The legal basis is the performance of our contract with you.

Purchases. Payments are handled by Stripe on its own checkout page, and where Stripe acts as the reseller or merchant of record it processes your purchase data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. Stripe collects your name, email address, payment details and billing address, and shares with us the email address, country, plan, amount and payment status. We never see your full card number. We keep purchase and invoice records to provide the license and to meet our tax and accounting obligations. The legal bases are the performance of our contract with you and compliance with legal obligations.

Emails. If you contact us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you choose to write, and we use them only to answer you. We may also send you emails that are necessary for your purchase, such as your license key, receipts and important notices about your subscription or these policies. We do not send marketing emails unless you have asked to receive them. The legal bases are our legitimate interest in answering your request and the performance of our contract with you.

Update checks. Once a day, and when you choose Check for Updates, the App asks api.notchpaste.com whether a newer version is available. The request contains no clipboard data and no identifier of you or your license.

Technical data. When you visit the Website or the App talks to our licensing service, Cloudflare, which hosts both, processes your IP address and standard request information such as the time, the requested URL and the user agent. This is needed to deliver the response, to protect the Service from abuse, for example by rate-limiting repeated requests, and to troubleshoot problems. We do not combine this data with license records to profile you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure Service.

4.What we do not do

  • We do not collect the contents of your clipboard, pinboards or prompts, including the links you copy.
  • We do not use analytics, usage tracking, advertising or crash-reporting tools in the App or on the Website.
  • We do not set cookies on the Website. Stripe’s checkout page may use its own cookies for fraud prevention, under Stripe’s privacy policy.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal data, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to train AI models.

5.Service providers

We share personal data only with service providers that process it on our behalf to run the Service, and only to the extent they need it:

  • Stripe: payment processing, subscriptions, invoices, tax calculation and the customer billing portal.
  • Cloudflare: hosting of the Website and the licensing service, the license database, network security and routing of email sent to our address.
  • Resend: delivery of emails containing license keys.
  • Our email provider: storing and answering the emails you send us.

We may also disclose personal data where the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or to a successor if the business is sold or merged, in which case this policy continues to apply to your data.

6.International transfers

Our service providers operate globally, so your personal data may be processed outside the country where you live, including in the United States. Where data from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland is transferred to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

7.How long we keep data

  • License records are kept for as long as the license exists, so that you can restore it at any time. If you ask us to delete them, we will, except for what we must keep under the next point.
  • Purchase and invoice records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
  • A Mac’s device record is deleted when you deactivate that Mac.
  • Support emails are kept for up to two years after your last message, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Technical request data is kept by Cloudflare only for short periods for security and troubleshooting.

8.Security

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted connections, signed license tokens, restricted access to our systems and keeping as little data as possible. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires it.

9.Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Erasure: have your data deleted.
  • Restriction: have the processing of your data limited.
  • Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Withdrawal of consent: withdraw any consent you have given, at any time.
  • Complaint: lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise a right, write to hello@notchpaste.com, preferably from the email address used for your purchase. We may ask for information that confirms your identity, such as your license key. We will respond within 30 days.

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, you also have the right to know, correct and delete the personal information we hold about you. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

10.Deleting your data

To delete data on your Mac, clear your history in Settings, or quit the App and delete the ~/Library/Application Support/NotchPaste folder.

To delete license data on our servers, write to hello@notchpaste.com from the email address used for your purchase. Deleting license data ends the license, so cancel any active subscription first.

11.Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12.Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the Service or the law. The updated policy takes effect when it is published on this page with a new effective date. If a change materially affects how we use your personal data, we will tell paying customers by email or in the App before it takes effect.
